Hands on in Biology!
As we approach British Science Week 2018 next month students at Nottingham Academy have been getting hands on with biology.
In Year 8 pupils have been learning about joints, bone and tissue structures, by dissecting chicken thighs and chicken wings.
To fully understand the workings of the heart, Year 9 have been examining hearts bought from the butcher, and have learned all about human’s most vital organ.
A level students have also been dissecting hearts, labelling each section to support their work on blood transportation in animals.
By providing dissection opportunities to our pupils it allows them to learn in a different way. Many pupils learn through kinaesthetic learning, enabling them to fully engage with the subject and allowing them to see, feel and investigate the various organs and biological systems. Helping to furhter strengthen pupils understanding and progress their learning in biology.
