Basketball Academy News 17/11/17

Another incredibly busy week ahead for the Basketball Academy

Here are next week’s fixtures and events, including the Greenwood Trust Basketball Festival on Tuesday!

Last week’s results:

On Monday the Year 8 and 9 boys played in their first tournament.  With the majority of the team made up of Year 8 boys (and including one year 7) the boys showed great potential.  Despite losing all 3 games they performed above expectations, and will surely look to improve in the coming months.

The U'19 Women travelled to Preston for a game against Myerscough College, one of last years top 4 teams.  With five year 10 and one year 11 in the squad Nottingham Academy are one of, if not the youngest team in the competition, and the first quarter showed their inexperience.  However the girls responded exceptionally well, stepping up throughout the game to give a strong showing that they hope to build on in a fortnight when they play their key game against Lloreto College.

The U'19 Men picked up their second league win in a closely fought game against last year’s League winners, Gateshead College.  The U'19 team are really starting to gel, and we're seeing increased leadership from a number of second year players on the team, while the first year players are really stepping up now that they understand what is required of them. They have a game next week and we hope to see many students come to see their hard work put into practice!

Next week’s events:

On Monday 20/11 and 23/11 Nottingham Academy pupils will officiate at local school tournaments.

On Tuesday Nottingham Academy will host and take part in the Greenwood Academies Trust Inter Academy Basketball Festival, a huge event for us, where we will have Year 8 and Year 9 teams taking part and Sixth Form student athletes supporting the event.

Next week’s fixtures:

The Year 9 girls team will have a busy Tuesday, as they compete in the GAT Inter Academy Basketball Tournament during the day and then go to the City Schools Tournament straight after school!  This will be the girl’s first game and features some very hard working and committed young ladies.

The U'19 Men will look to push their record to 3-1 in the league when they face Stoke at home next Wednesday.  This should be a good game with just one place separating the teams in the league; this is another great opportunity to enjoy some great basketball on the doorstep. Wildcats Arena is next door to Greenwood Campus site 1, tip off is at 4pm, entrance is free and is open to all.
