Urdu - Key Stage 5

Our Sixth Form students follow the Edexcel A level Urdu course. Units are based around reading, listening, writing and speaking skills.

At A Level, students study 4 themes. The four themes address a range of content related to society past and present, as well as aspects of the political and artistic culture of Pakistan and areas of India where Urdu is an official language. The following are the four themes:

Theme 1 is set in the context of Pakistan. This theme covers society past and present. If the research subject is chosen from this theme, it must focus on Pakistan only.

Theme 2 is set in the context of the Urdu speaking world. This theme covers artistic culture past and present (folklore, popular culture) and political culture past and presents (Media).

Theme 3 is set in the context of Pakistan. This theme covers Society Past and Present. If the

research subject is chosen from this theme, it must focus on Pakistan only.

Theme 4 is set in the context of Pakistan. This theme covers political culture past and present.

If the research subject is chosen from this theme, it must focus on Pakistan only.

Students are assessed by three externally-examined papers that assess listening, reading and writing skills.

Students studying other community languages follow courses from OCR, Edexcel and AQA. These focus on similar topics and are assessed in similar ways to the A Level Urdu course.
