The course is split into 2 units; Science fundamentals and Laboratory techniques. Applied science extended certificate requires an additional 3 units, Control of hazards in the laboratory, Microbiology and Product Design Testing Techniques.
What is Applied Science
The Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Applied Science, is a vocational science qualification designed for sixth form students.
Pupils study a wide range of scientific theory and practical knowledge, with an emphasis placed on real world application.
The first year of the course provides a solid foundation in scientific principles, for example: How to perform acid-base titrations.
The second year then applies these skills to industry scenarios: How to calculate the sulphur content of wine using acid-base titrations
All three areas of science are covered, but a focus is placed on chemistry and biology over physics.
