There is no requirement to have studied geography at GCSE, although a good knowledge of world locations and current issues will help.
The travel and tourism industry is one of the fastest growing global industries, contributing over £209 billion to the UK economy and employing over 4 million people. This course is perfect for students who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, possibly in the travel and tourism sector. This qualification gives a broad introduction to the travel and tourism industry, with an emphasis on core knowledge and fundamental skills that are transferable across other sectors. 50% is externally assessed by examination and 50% internally by coursework.

What will I study?
1. The World of Travel and Tourism |
Exploring the whole Travel and Tourism industry, including the analysis of a variety of statistics and current affairs to measure the importance of the industry to the UK. You will use case studies of actual TT organisations to apply your understanding. |
2. Global Destinations |
An investigation of the features, appeal and importance of different global destinations. |
3. Principles of marketing in Travel and Tourism |
Explore the role of marketing in TT. Develop a successful marketing plan for use by an actual travel and tourism organisation. |
4. Visitor Attractions |
Explore the range and appeal of the different visitor attractions in the UK. |
How will I be assessed?
1. The World of Travel and Tourism |
External Assessment |
Written examination set and marked by Pearson. • 1.5 hours. • 75 marks |
2. Global Destinations |
External Assessment:

A task set and marked by Pearson and completed under supervised conditions. • Learners are given information two weeks before a supervised assessment period in order to carry out research. • The supervised assessment period is undertaken in a single session of three hours. • 60 marks. |
