Nottingham Secondary Academy

History

What do we do? Why do we do it?

At the Nottingham Academy we aim to provide high-quality history education, which helps our students gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. We aim to inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past, so that they may arrive at their own independent and informed judgements about the past. We also aim to enable our students to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.

Furthermore, our history curriculum aims to develop our students’ strength of character, enabling them to become empathetic, resilient and independent. We strive to develop the essential skills of listening, speaking, problem-solving, creativity, staying positive, aiming high, leadership and teamwork. Lastly, our history curriculum is designed to offer a range of opportunities leading to academic enrichment, and intellectual curiosity and development. Such opportunities range from exploring first-hand Nottingham’s rich local history to meeting a Holocaust survivor. Underpinning all of this is our aim to promote, through our curriculum, our academy’s values of respect for yourself, respect for each other and respect for our environment and community.
