Nottingham Academy

Art and Photography

I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.

Introduction

Our aim at Nottingham Academy is to provide a highly engaging and diverse curriculum that challenges and promotes individuality, self-worth, and creative thinkers. The Art and design team at NAC work together to build students’ communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. Our curriculum provides opportunities to develop resilience, confidence, and to enable students to negotiate the challenges of life with an enriched understanding and develop a widened knowledge of the world around them.

Our key stage 3 art and design curriculum has been designed so learning is sequenced, so students can build on their practice.

Art and Photography allows students to engage and succeed through a variety of topics and themes. At NAC we celebrate and explore a range of art forms from different cultures to contemporary works to engage our students. We use a variety of mediums, so all students can respond to the learning outcomes and be proud of their creativity.

We hold several Art exhibitions throughout the year, where parents are invited to celebrate the success of our students. Artwork is proudly displayed in classrooms and in the corridors to inspire our pupils to achieve. Click the tabs on the left to learn more about the Art curriculum at key stage 3, 4 and 5.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

· Art clubs are on to give students the opportunity to complete homework, classwork and to access a wide range of materials. Support is on hand for any students needing extra guidance or help.

· After school clubs are available throughout the week which run on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. This is popular with our KS4 students as they benefit from the 1:1 support offered by the team.

· We aim to offer a range of opportunities for trips at KS3 to galleries within Nottingham which include Nottingham Contemporary and the Art Exchange. There will be opportunities for workshops by local artists that will take place on site at the NAC. At KS4 trips will begin again to the Yorkshire sculpture park and to London’s Iconic galleries for KS5 in February.

· There are opportunities for students to have guidance to talk to professionals and be informed on making the right choice when selecting

Subjects at further education and universities, regarding their future careers.
