I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.
At Nottingham Academy our aim is to develop, enhance and cultivate the visual arts. We do this through a programme that embraces innovation while developing traditional skills. The Nottingham Academy has a thriving Art department with creative and experienced staff.
Starting Art GCSE in Year 9 offers pupils the chance to experiment with a wide range of materials and refine their skills before the start of Year 10.
We hold several Art exhibitions throughout the year, where parents are invited to celebrate the success of our students. Artwork is proudly displayed in classrooms and in the corridors to inspire our pupils to achieve. Click the tabs on the left to learn more about the Art curriculum at key stage 3, 4 and 5.
Extra Curricular Opportunities
- Art lunchtime clubs are available everyday. This offers a chance for students to complete homework, classwork and to access a wide range of materials. Help is on hand for any students needing extra guidance.
- After school clubs are available throughout the week which run on a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. This is popular with our KS4 students as they benefit from the 1:1 support offered by Mr Newall and Mr Hill.
- Art trip to the sculpture park, which feeds directly into and GCSE coursework. Pupils are able to use cameras to take a variety photographs of sculptures/landscapes by artist such as Henry Moore. This is then used to develop and demonstrate artist research which covers one of the four assessment objectives at GCSE.
