Nottingham Secondary Academy

Art and Photography

What do we do? Why do we do it?

At Nottingham Academy we have designed a curriculum for Art, Design and Photography, which is structured around creativity, opportunities, and our character charter.

We provide opportunities to develop resilience, confidence, and to enable students to negotiate the challenges of life with an enriched understanding and develop a widened knowledge of the art world. We cover skills in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art forms, craft, and design techniques.

Our Key Stage 3 Art and Design curriculum has been designed, so learning is sequenced allowing students to build on their practice. This allows students to be engaged, inspired, and challenged. The curriculum is designed to ensure that all students have a good foundation in artistic techniques, so they can build upon their own skills.

Projects are theme-based to enable students to develop the knowledge and understanding needed to give them a wide range of experiences in different mediums. Students will also have opportunities to develop social skills, make the right choices and be proud of what they produce.

Our aim is to provide a highly engaging and diverse curriculum that challenges and promotes individuality, self-worth, and creative thinking. To that end, Art and Photography allows students to engage and succeed through a variety of topics and themes.

The Art and Design curriculum overview can be found in the attachment below.
