Congratulations to Oakley from Year 13!
Oakley Wright has been competing in the Taekwondo open in Slovenia this weekend representing GB.
We are SO proud to announce that he finished in 3rd place winning a Bronze medal. This now means he qualifies for the men’s senior team in the European championships in July.
In September Oakley is moving to Manchester to train full time on an GB elite athlete scholarship programme.
Oakley has dreams of being a future Olympian and has his eyes set on his place in the GB team for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Oakley is happy for us to share that in June 2023 he suffered a huge blow to his health when he became critically ill with meningitis. Oakley spent a week in intensive care receiving medical intervention which saved his life. Two weeks after his diagnosis he was out of hospital, 8 days later he was back in training. Nothing will stop Oakley from achieving his dreams.
On top of this, Oakley is an outstanding student, balancing his intense training schedule with completing his A levels. Oakley is on track to achieve a D*/D* in level 3 sport course and a B in A level photography.
His determination, focus and hard work will take him far and we wish him luck in his next competition.
